Measuring Flower Pots
Knowing what size flower pots to buy is essential for nurseries, gardeners, and those who want to grow their own plants. It is quite simple to measure flower pots, as long as you know how to go about it. Here are some practical tips to help you get started.
Using a Tape Measure
- Hoist: Place one end of the tape measure at the bottom of the pot and raise it as high as you can. Note the measurement. This is the first and most important measurement and it will let you know the maximum depth of the pot.
- Circumference: Wrap the tape measure around the circumference of the pot. Note the measurement.
- Diameter: Divide the circumference measurement in half to get the diameter.
Using a Ruler
- Depth: Place the ruler at the bottom of the pot. Note the measurement of the depth.
- Width: Place the ruler at the widest point of the pot. Note the measurement of the width.
- Height: Place the ruler at the tallest point of the pot. Note the measurement of the pot.
Tips for Measurement Accuracy
- If possible, measure the attractive parts of the pot and ignore the handles or feet.
- For accuracy, it is best to measure with a ruler placed straight across the pot rather than wrapping a measuring tape around.
- Be sure to use identical measurements for all pots of the same size.
Measuring flower pots correctly is valuable for choosing appropriate plants for the pots. Make sure to accurately measure the inside and outside of the pots to get the required measurements. Following these simple guidelines will give you a reliable and accurate measurement for your flower pots.
