Artichokes are a healthy and delicious vegetable, perfect for a variety of recipes. Though artichokes may seem daunting to prepare at first, they are actually fairly simple to prepare, and can be steamed in a pot on the stovetop. Follow these easy steps to get your artichokes ready for the table!
- 1 artichoke
- Rinse the artichoke with cool running water. To prepare the artichoke, use a paring knife or kitchen shears to remove and discard the stem and top few inches of the leaf tips. Peel off the tough outer leaves and cut off the top third of the artichoke.
- Put the artichoke in the pot and fill it with enough water so that it reaches halfway up the artichoke. Season the water with salt, then cover the pot and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 to 20 minutes, depending on the size of the artichoke. To check if its done, use a fork to test for tenderness. If the artichoke is tender, it is finished cooking.
- When the artichoke is finished, transfer it to a serving dish. Enjoy!
