Using a Steamer Basket in Your Instant Pot
With its high heat and built-in timer, the Instant Pot is an amazing kitchen tool that can be used to quickly and easily make delicious meals. One of its most convenient features is the ability to steam food with a steamer basket. Here is a step-by-step guide to using a steamer basket in your Instant Pot.
Step 1: Prepare the Instant Pot
Start by adding 1 cup of water to the Instant Pot insert. Place the steamer basket in the Instant Pot. Make sure the handle is facing up.
Step 2: Prepare the Food
You can steam a variety of foods in the steamer basket, such as vegetables, fish, and small cuts of meat. Wash your food, and then cut it into small pieces if necessary. Place the food in the steamer basket.
Step 3: Set the Timer
You need to set the timer to the appropriate time for the type of food you are steaming. Here are some guidelines:
- Vegetables – 5 minutes
- Fish Filets – 10 minutes
- Small Cuts of Meat – 15 minutes
Step 4: Cook
Secure the lid on the Instant Pot, making sure the valve is in the ‘Sealing’ position. Press the ‘Steam’ button and adjust the timer. The Instant Pot will pressurize and then begin to cook.
Step 5: Release the Pressure
When the cooking time is up, the Instant Pot will beep to let you know it is finished. You then need to release the pressure. Carefully turn the valve to the ‘Venting’ position to allow the steam to escape. Once all the steam has been released, the Instant Pot will be ready to open.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Carefully remove the steamer basket and place the food on a plate. Serve your delicious meal and enjoy!
